The last Tuesday of every month except December has long been an evening guild members would gather together to work (spin, knit, weave, ....) and chat. It is time to do it again - this time virtually to keep everyone safe and avoid that night time drive.
All current guild members will receive an invitation to the zoom event on the last Tuesday of the month. Non-members are welcome to join in - send an email to dropin@vhwsg.ca to request an invitation.
There is no "agenda" - just drop in from home while you are working and have a chat. It is a good time to ask questions about the guild or your work. If the crowd is large, we can arrange for smaller groups to to chat in break out rooms. Other details will evolve as we meet and experience this new Drop-In format.

- : Modern in the Making: Post-War Craft and Design in British Columbia (VAG has reopened)
- November 20, 2020
Exhibit at the Vancouver Art Gallery was to have opened April 10 until the VAG closed to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. The exhibit will now open July 18, 2020 through January 3, 2021. Several items from the VHWSG Permanent Collection are included in this exhibit.
Exhibit continues until January 3, 2021.
From the VAG website: "Featuring over 300 works, Modern in the Making: Post-War Craft and Design in British Columbia examines the furniture, ceramics, textiles, fashion and jewellery that defined West Coast modern living in the mid-twentieth century. In the three decades following the Second World War, thousands of people immigrated to British Columbia seeking the benefits of its resource-based economy, mild climate, natural amenities and inventive spirit. This optimistic post-war environment fostered the development of exceptional design and craft practices, deeply influenced by the tenets of modernism: simplicity, fine craftsmanship and functional design for everyday use. The most comprehensive view of mid-century craft and design from this region assembled to date, the exhibition reveals how local histories, immigration patterns and materials impacted interpretations of modernism in British Columbia, while also recognizing this cultural movement’s inherent ties to colonial expansion."

7:00 pm: Guild Show ‘n’ Tell and Virtual Holiday Get Together
7:00 pm December 3, 2020
Traditionally the Guild has organized a Holiday Potluck on the first Thursday of December. With the current public health emergency, an in-person gathering will not be possible, but we will be organizing a Guild virtual Show ‘n’ Tell for this evening. This will be a great me to connect with other Guild members before the rush of the holiday preparations. Remember, only Guild members will get the Zoom invitation, so you can even safely display those hand-crafted creations that you will be giving to family and friends! For the Show ‘n’ Tell we will be using the Share Screen function of Zoom. This means you take a photo and load it to the screen of your computer or iPad, and when it is your turn to present, you can click an icon and presto! Everyone can now see your monitor screen! If you have never attempted this before, please send a note to zoom@vhwsg.ca for assistance.
Depending upon interest, we may also create Zoom “Break-Out Rooms” revolving around special topics. How do “breakout rooms” work? These are smaller virtual meetings that occur within the larger one. They will likely be limited to six participants to facilitate conversation. If you have an idea of a topic, please send that to programs@vhwsg.ca .
