Membership in the Victoria Handweavers’ and Spinners’ Guild is open to anyone with an interest in spinning, weaving and related fibre arts. New members are very welcome. We meet monthly, except July, August and December. At this time, we are meeting in person with a hybrid set-up for those who cannot physically attend.

How to Join the Guild

Membership in the VHWSG runs from June 1 to May 31 of the following year.  The membership fee is due by September 30th of each year. There are no discounts for “partial years”. Please read our Privacy Policy. Please also read about the different types of membership below.

To join for the first time or to renew your membership, use the online Membership Form. You can pay by e-transfer or cheque. All payment details are on the form.

Types of Membership

Regular Membership

The Regular Membership fee is $40.00.
An annual Regular Membership comes with the following benefits:

  • Participation in all guild activities.
  • The right to vote at all guild meetings.
  • A monthly email newsletter highlighting guild activities and access to past newsletters in the newsletter archive.
  • Borrowing privileges for all books, periodicals, and reference material in the guild library.
  • Participation in guild-sponsored workshops upon payment of the regular workshop fees.
  • Opportunities to apply for guild scholarships – applicants must meet scholarship criteria.

Associate Membership

The Associate Membership fee is $20.00.
Associate members must live outside the Greater Victoria area as shown on the map.
An annual Associate Membership comes with the following benefits:

  • Participation in all guild activities including all meetings, but without the privilege of voting.
  • A monthly email newsletter highlighting guild activities and access to past newsletters in the newsletter archive.
  • Access to the guild library, but Associate Members may not borrow library resources.
  • Participation in guild-sponsored workshops upon payment of the regular workshop fees and provided they do not displace an regular member.
  • Rental of guild equipment for use in guild-sponsored, in-person workshops ONLY.

Post Secondary Student Membership
The membership fee is $20.00.
Open to all university and college students pursuing full-time studies at accredited universities and colleges in the Greater Victoria area as shown on the map.
An annual Student Membership comes with the following benefits:

  • Participation in all guild activities including all meetings.
  • The right to vote at all guild meetings.
  • A monthly email newsletter highlighting guild activities and access to past newsletters in the newsletter archive.
  • Borrowing privileges for all books, periodicals, and reference material in the guild library.
  • Participation in guild-sponsored workshops upon payment of the regular workshop fees.
  • Opportunities to apply for guild scholarships – applicants must meet scholarship criteria.

Honorary Life Membership
These members have all the privileges of the Active Member category, but do not pay annual dues. Honorary Life Members are appointed by the Executive in recognition of exemplary service to the Guild.
